Introducing the Sportsman lineup
Built for Xtreme Performance More than One million ATV riders have experienced the legendary Polaris Sportsman line. How do you make a classic even better? Re-invent it with exclusive and industry-leading features that make it the “Best Sportsman Ever.” The Sportsman 850 XP and 550 XP are 99 percent new, and take Sportsman’s power and ride to the next level. The Sportsman 850 XP features a new, more-powerful 850cc, twin EFI engine that churns out 70 horsepower, while the Sportsman 550 XP has a new, morepowerful 549cc, single EFI engine with 40 horsepower. The engines were designed to decrease engine vibration with internal balance shafts and are rubber-mounted to the chassis. The Sportsman XPs also feature the largest starting motor of any ATV requiring less power at start
Along with new engines, the Sportsman XPs’ transmission features a roller-driven clutch, similar to a high-performance snowmobile, which reduces friction and provides smoother, faster clutch response and back shifting. For more usable speed, the models also feature a higher “Low “gear due to the broader torque curve of the engine, which allow speeds up to 39 mph in “Low.” The added power gives the Sportsman 850 XP and 550 XP the highest pulling and towing power at 1,500 lbs./680.4 kg and biggest rack capacity at 120 lbs./54.4 kg front and 240 lbs./108.9 kg. rear with a total of 100 built-in, tie-down points, making it not only scream down the trails but also an extremely tough work companion.

The Sportsman XPs also feature the most intelligent drivetrain including Polaris’ exclusive On-Demand, All-Wheel Drive (AWD) and Engine Braking System (EBS with Active Descent Control (ADC). To tackle the most extreme riding conditions, the Sportsman XPs’ On- Demand AWD system automatically engages when the rider needs more forward traction and reverts back to two-wheel drive automatically when the AWD is no longer needed. The Engine braking assists in braking on steep inclines, while ADC provides four-wheel braking when the vehicle is in AWD, is operating at speeds below 15 mph and there is no throttle being applied. The new Sportsman XPs also have the highest cooling capacity allowing the cooling system to deliver the maximum endurance for sustained, high-horsepower applications. The models offer a 20 percent larger radiator mounted 4 inches higher than previous models to avoid obstruction. The new cooling system ensures the Sportsman XP can work longer than any other ATV under loaded, high-horsepower robbing conditions such as loaded, up-hill climbs, food plot tilling and other hard-work applications. The radiator also is easily accessible for quick cleaning.
An upgraded system for greater stopping power, the new models have automotive-style, hydraulic disc brakes all-around. The Sportsman 850 XP has four-wheel discs with three-wheel on the Sportsman 550 XP. The new brakes provide smooth, predictable braking power through a simple, single-lever brake.
The Sportsman XPs’ triple-headlight design provides 100 percent more lighting. For maximum vision at night, the models give the rider the ability to use all three headlights at once for 150 watts of lighting power. Polaris Sportsman is known for its legendary ride and the new Sportsman XPs are the best ever.

The models have a new, ultimate smooth suspension that features Polaris’ exclusive Rolled Independent Rear Suspension and Dual A-arm front suspension. The Rolled IRS minimizes rear-end squat under acceleration and provides better bump absorption due to the a-arms and two-stage springs being angled 4 degrees, creating recessional wheel travel that moves up and back. The Rolled IRS has been coupled with progressive, dual-rate springs made of high-tensile, chrome, silicon steel, and an adjustable preload front and rear for a smoother, more-controlled ride. The units also feature the highest suspension travel at 9 in./22.9 cm front and 10.25 in./26 cm rear, and the highest ground clearance at 12 in./30.5 cm making the ride smooth even in the toughest terrain.
To soak up bump steer in rough terrain, the Sportsman XPs have exclusive antikickback steering so riding in the rough stuff is easier on the operator. The models feature longer control arms and the largest wheels so the steering pivot of each axle is moved to the most-neutral, center part of the tire. Polaris also outfitted the Sportsman XPs with lower-profile tires to minimize tread deflection between the ground and wheel direction to deliver the most positive, precise steering available. Polaris also will be offering a power steering version of the models.
Polaris’ power steering system is the most powerful system available offering variable assist which provides the least steering effort at slow speeds and more positive feedback and more resistance at high speeds.

Along with providing more power and an enhanced ride, the new Sportsman XPs sport a new design with improved ergonomics. For a more-comfortable ride, the models have 33 percent larger floorboards and more knee room with aggressive heel and calf pockets that are 3 _ inches narrower at the knees and 5 inches narrower at the feet for ease of movement. For a drier ride, the Sportsman XPs also have full mud protection with extensive inner splash shields. The new Sportsman XPs not only have more power and a better ride but they look good too. The models feature a redesigned, aggressive, purposeful look that is sporty yet functional and tough. The custom painted finish not only adds to the fit and finish but is nine times more durable than traditional plastic. To complete the Sportsman XPs are standard 14-inch, cast aluminum wheels Carlisle Terrathon tires to provide superior traction and style.

Servicing the new Sportsman XPs is simple with easy access points to critical components such as oil and air filters, spark plugs, radiator, battery, fusebox, fluids and drain plugs. The models also were built for easy installation of accessories including a winch pre-wire and switch locations built-in for extra lights and hand/thumb warmers. PURE Polaris has a full line of accessories for the new Sportsman including Lock & Ride, brush guards, plows and other accessories. For all work and no play, Polaris is introducing the new Sportsman 800 6x6 Big Boss with an 800cc EFI engine with Polaris’ Engine Braking System (EBS), Active Descent Control (ADC), six-wheel independent suspension and six-wheel shaft drive. With an upgraded, morepowerful engine and smoother suspension, the Sportsman 6x6 works even harder while the upgraded suspension ensures it’s not hard on you. Polaris will continue to offer the Sportsman 800 EFI H.O., Sportsman 500 EFI, Sportsman 500 H.O., Sportsman 400 H.O., Sportsman 300 and Trail Boss 330 as part of it’s value line of ATVs.

Polaris RANGER Utility Line Up
The Hardest Working, Smoothest Riding Side-by-Sides EVER
The Polaris RANGER is the, “Hardest Working, Smoothest Riding” utility vehicle on the market, and the 2009 line up introduces the ruggedly re-engineered RANGER that is the hardest working and smoothest riding RANGER EVER built. Along with a brand new RANGER 4x4 and
RANGER XP, Polaris is introducing the new RANGER HD, the ultimate heavy-duty utility vehicle with Self Leveling rear suspension and power steering.
“The 2009 line up is the most-significant and extensive product introduction in RANGER history,” said Matt Homan, general manager of Polaris’ Side-by-Side division. “We kept all the features that make a RANGER great, Electronic Fuel Injection, Independent Rear Suspension, Polaris True All-Wheel Drive; and completely re-engineered the rest to include more rugged styling, improved ergonomics, easier steering, more cab space and exclusive Adjustable Dual A-Arm front suspension, to create the next generation of RANGER utility vehicles that work even harder and ride even smoother.”
To make the RANGER even harder working, Polaris completely redesigned the vehicle to tackle the toughest work applications. To create an exterior that could handle the nastiest work and most extreme riding conditions, Polaris outfitted the new models with the most-armored front end ever designed. The design offers protection for critical components such as the radiator, cooling system and front differential. The front headlights have been inset for added protection from rocks and branches, and the redesigned bumper with heavy-duty bash plate offers dedicated vehicle tie down points, massive central tow hook and inset tow hook cage for additional front differential protection. For those who require more lighting, the vehicle also offers auxiliary light mounting holes on the front bumper and bosses already installed for optional Halogen/LED distance headlights.
The new RANGERs work harder and are easier on the operator due to new improved thoughtful ergonomics designed to let the operator work longer and enjoy a better ride. The new models feature more seat and leg space, reoriented gas and brake pedal for improved operator comfort, new angled-back seat that is similar to a car and a relocated brake lever for operation inside
and outside of the vehicle. Polaris also redesigned the steering wheel for better steering with gloves and added standard tilt steering with the highest range of motion for maximum comfort. Along with tilt steering, the new models have a 50 percent easier steering effort which helps maneuverability in tight areas such as farm yards or woods.
Polaris RANGER always has been known for its generous storage and the new RANGERs offer the only storage options designed for real life work and recreation. With a industry-leading 46 percent more dash storage than the competitors for convenient storing of farm, work and hunting items, and under-hood storage for those items not frequently accessed, such as a spare battery or tow ropes, the new RANGERs have the most productive storage in the industry. The RANGER XP and RANGER HD also have a removable under-seat compartment for added storage or an optional cooler insert that is offered by PURE Polaris.
To make the smoothest ride in the industry even smoother, Polaris outfitted the new RANGERs with exclusive Adjustable Dual A-Arm front suspension in addition to it’s legendary smooth independent rear suspension. Exclusive to RANGER, the new models feature motion ratio and preload suspension adjustment front and rear. The new Dual A-Arm front suspension has two
upper shock mounting points on each wheel giving a motion ratio adjustment that dramatically increases stiffness of suspension. The preload adjustment, available on each wheel, increases the initial spring compression for a 30 percent stiffer ride when needed. The new suspension allows for the maintenance of ground clearance (12 in/30.5 cm) and suspension travel (9.63 in/24.5 cm front, 9 in/22.9 cm rear) when carrying heavier loads and using accessories such as plows, cabs and prayers for work applications. It also allows for easier use of after-market suspension packages and easy widening of vehicle for recreational purposes. To combat ruts, stumps and rocks, the new RANGERs also offer anti-kickback steering that reduces feedback over bumps and makes the vehicle steerable with one hand.
For ultra heavy-duty work applications, Polaris is introducing RANGER HD which has all the new RANGER features plus an exclusive Self-Leveling Suspension and Variable Assist Power Steering. Known as the ultimate “Hardest Working, Smoothest Riding” side-by-side, RANGER HD is perfect for farm, construction site or any application that requires heavy hauling and towing.
To complement RANGER ‘s exclusive, Adjustable Dual A-Arm front suspension, the RANGER HD features the first-ever Self-Leveling Suspension on a utility vehicle. When carrying heavy loads, the Nivomat® shocks automatically adjust the suspension resulting in the highest loaded ground clearance of any utility vehicle. Due to a lower spring rate, the Nivomats provide a
smoother ride and the ability to go long distances at 50 MPH fully-loaded, making hauling loads such as fertilizer, feed or building materials quicker and easier.
For easier steering during heavy-duty work applications, RANGER HD also features power steering with exclusive Variable Assist. RANGER HD’s power steering allows for one-finger steering at low speeds and eliminates feedback at high speeds so the operator can work longer and enjoy the ride. The system is perfect for plowing as well as the new BOSS® Lift & Carry System that attaches to the front of the RANGER HD and can lift and carry up to 500 lbs. The RANGER CREW, the only six-passenger, electronic fuel injected and fastest people hauler on the market, and the monster-traction RANGER 6x6 round out the “Hardest Working, Smoothest Riding” RANGER utility offering for 2009.
